Course Description
This Trimester introduces you to botany and plant knowledge, the various types of plant and where they grow and we then move on to how plants are named and how this relates to their structure
Starting with roots, we look at all parts of the plant showing how it grows, flowers, pollinates and sets seed followed by plant physiology
Horticulutural skills are important and we start with some health and safety followed by poisonous plants you may encounter in your garden
The Trimester deals with site or border assessment and planning and cultivations, followed by plant categories and selection leading on to the planting of trees and shrubs
The Trimester covers pruning, irrigation and a look at weather and climate to help you select the best plants for your garden
The Trimester looks at soil management discussing various soil types, soil pH, water and drainage, the benefits of soil organic matter, making compost and different forms of plant growing media, all essential for plant health
Finally, we look at a wide range of ornamental trees and shrubs suitable for different conditions and specific situations for all seasons also fully discussing hedges, conifers, roses, heather and climbers
