Course Description

Trimester 3 begins with the history, principles and standards of organic growing before going on to look at organic cultivations, fertilisers, compost and plant protection
We look at conservation and wildlife gardening giving the background to conservation, basic principles, surveying and protected species in the garden
We look at the management of wildlife habitats like ponds, hedges and meadows, alongside looking at how to make our gardens more wildlife friendly
We take time to look at how we can all help with the important issues we have to deal with such as climate change, pollution, habitat and species loss
Additionally, the course includes garden design beginning with client consultation, site survey, measurement and basic styles considering the principles of design to produce a working plan finishing on planting the soft landscape and installation of hard landscape
Finally we explore Amenity Horticulture which includes various garden styles, such as Mediterranean, Japanese, prairie and gravel gardens
